Let’s be real – content creation can feel like a rollercoaster ride. From the initial spark of an idea to the final post, there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes. Here’s a peek into how I approach content creation and a few tips to make the process smoother.
1. Brainstorming – Where the Magic Starts
Every great post starts with a solid idea. I love to sit down with a coffee (or three) and start by jotting down anything that pops into my head. It doesn't matter if it’s a little out there – the brainstorming phase is all about creativity, not perfection.
Tip: Keep a running list of ideas on your phone or in a notebook. You never know when inspiration will strike, so being able to quickly note down those random ideas is key.
2. Planning – Setting the Foundation
Once I have a few solid ideas, I narrow them down and start thinking about how each one will fit into the overall strategy.
This is where I also check in on brand voice and messaging. Is this post on-brand? Does it serve the audience? What’s the goal?
Tip: Use content calendars to plan ahead. I typically sketch out my posts for the month, so there’s always something in the pipeline. Not only does this save time, but it helps maintain consistency.
3. Design – Bringing Ideas to Life
For me, the visuals are just as important as the copy. I start by thinking about the overall vibe I want to create with the design.
Whether it’s playful, bold, or minimalistic, the design should complement the message without overpowering it.
Tip: Canva is a lifesaver for quick designs. If you’re not a designer, you can still create eye-catching visuals that align with your brand’s aesthetic.
4. Copywriting – Finding Your Voice
Now for the fun part – writing the actual post. I like to start with a rough draft and just get the words out. Editing comes later. When writing, I think about who I’m talking to and what action I want them to take. Whether it’s a call to visit the website or engage in the comments, keeping the end goal in mind helps shape the copy.
Tip: Write like you’re talking to a friend. The more authentic your voice, the better your audience will connect with your message.
5. Editing – Fine-Tuning the Details
Once the copy is down, I’ll step away for a bit and come back with fresh eyes. This is when I tighten up the message, cut out any fluff, and make sure the tone is spot-on.
Tip: Read your copy out loud. It helps you catch awkward phrasing and ensure your writing flows naturally.
6. Scheduling & Posting – Making It All Happen
Finally, it’s time to hit publish. I use scheduling tools like Later to plan posts ahead of time, which frees me up for other creative work.
Tip: Don’t just post and ghost. Stick around to engage with your audience after your content goes live. Responding to comments quickly makes a big difference.
7. Staying Consistent with Your Brand
Throughout the entire process, from brainstorming to posting, consistency is key. Everything you create should feel like it’s coming from the same place. That means paying attention to your tone, visuals, and the overall feel of your content.
Tip: Have a brand guide handy. This will keep you aligned with your fonts, colours, voice, and general vibe. The more consistent you are, the more trust you’ll build with your audience.
That’s it!
A sneak peek into my content creation process. From concept to post, it’s all about staying organised, being authentic, and having fun with it.
So grab your notebook, start brainstorming, and let the creativity flow!
